New leaf and all that.

Neighbor's Garden

I've had a lot of time to hang out and think about my life during naptime these past few months. Quitting my job in April was a good choice, and one I'd make again, but I need something to occupy my day besides burp rags and diapers.

Photography has been a hobby of mine since the early days of 4H. I'd borrow my dad's camera - sorry Dad, but I can't even remember the brand - and traipse around my parents' place. A few keepers, but a lot of wasted film, that's for sure. Fast forward to high school and college, and I got too busy with school and sports to have much time for anything.

Last summer I picked up the camera again. We'd had a really wet spring and the wildflowers were absolutely everywhere. Armed with a couple point and shoot cameras, as well as the basic photo editing software that came with Windows Vista, I took a couple hundred photos, the best of which got posted to Facebook. Thanks to the overwhelming response from my friends - which is probably why they're my friends in the first place - I made the jump to the love of my life last fall: a Nikon D5000 DSLR. We bought it "because of the baby". Yes, we've taken a lot of photos of the kid, but there's also a lot of the cat, the yard, and the desert.

Anyway, I'm starting the Spider Karma blog over. Who knows where this will go - my original intent is to document my photographic adventures - and we'll see if I can publish more than a dozen posts before moving on.
